There is no set price for asbestos removal, and this site sets none. The NSW Government says the building, the amount and whether it is friable move it; Council's disposal fee adds its own charge.

What asbestos removal involves, and so what it costs, turns on the rules below: whether the asbestos is friable, how much there is, what has to be notified and where the waste goes, including what Central Coast Council itself requires for its two waste facilities and for a development approval. None of them turns on the price of the job. Each is a regulator's, a council's or the NSW Government's own line, with the page it comes from and the date it was read.

| Where asbestos is suspected, Central Coast Council sets conditions on a development application. What moves the cost of asbestos removal
Where the asbestos is comes first: a backyard shed may cost less than a kitchen, because work inside the house carries more risk of exposing people. Friable or bonded is second. Friable work needs a Class A licence, a sealed work area, air monitoring and an independent clearance. Disposal is third, because removal cost is tied to it: licensed landfills have special requirements. Knowing first helps too: an inspection before work starts helps plan the cost, and testing a sample at a NATA-accredited laboratory costs between $40 and $140, according to the NSW Government's asbestos site (read 27 September 2026). That is the government's guide, not a quote from any laboratory.
What Central Coast Council charges
Council's 2026-27 fee schedule prices asbestos under its special waste line: A$613.30 a tonne including GST (A$557.55 plus A$55.75 GST), with a minimum charge of A$39.98 a load including GST. The same line covers other waste that needs extra handling, and the schedule has no line headed asbestos. Large commercial quantities over 10 m³ are accepted at Buttonderry. It is a Council disposal fee, not a job price, and it applies only to a load taken to Buttonderry or Woy Woy. Council's fees are reviewed each year, so re-read them.
