Fibro wall sheeting and corrugated cement roofing are bonded asbestos. Over 10 square metres, it must be removed by someone SafeWork NSW has licensed. The NSW Government puts 10 m² at about a 5 m by 2 m wall, or the wall sheeting from one small bathroom.

What asbestos roof and sheet removal in Central Coast actually involves

It is legal for a homeowner to remove less than 10 m² of bonded asbestos themselves, or to have a tradesperson do it. The NSW Government still strongly recommends a licensed removalist, because there is no safe level of exposure. If you are close to the line, treat the job as licensed work: the government pages say less than 10 m² and more than 10 m², and nothing separate about exactly 10 m².

Roofs, water and wrapping

High-pressure water spray and compressed air must never be used on asbestos. Removal uses a wet spray method, and even then the fibres are only suppressed, so respiratory protection stays essential. Central Coast Council's own disposal guidelines say the same for a wrapped load: it must be watered down, not pressure-washed. Council requires every load taken to Buttonderry or Woy Woy to be double-wrapped in plastic at least 200 microns thick; the disposal page sets out its packing rules.

Central Coast Council lists fibro sheeting, flat and corrugated, in walls and ceilings among the places asbestos is found, and its own line is that asbestos may be found in any property built or renovated before 1987.
