Two facilities, one area

Council's pages say asbestos can be taken to its Woy Woy or Buttonderry Waste Management Facilities, and its disposal guidelines say only asbestos generated in the council area will be accepted at either. Woy Woy is on Nagari Road; Buttonderry is at Jilliby.

Kincumber's facility, which closed to the public in 2020, is not on the list.

What Council checks at the gate

All asbestos loads must be booked at least 24 hours before delivery, the gate operator must be told on arrival that the load is asbestos, and asbestos is not accepted within an hour of the landfill's closing time.

Council's guidelines set the wrapping: double wrapped in plastic at least 200 microns thick, sealed, in packages of limited size. Each load is inspected, and a load that does not meet the requirements may be refused.

What it costs

Council's 2026-27 fee schedule has no line headed asbestos. Its special waste line, which its description says includes asbestos, is $557.55 a tonne plus $55.75 GST, A$613.30 including GST, with a minimum charge of A$39.98 a load including GST. A load found to contain unwrapped asbestos is charged at the asbestos rate for the whole load, and Council does not say which fee that is.
